Fed: Deal leaves door open to GST review

The federal government has left the door open to changing the amount of GST it takes
back from the states and territories .. as part of its health and hospital reforms.

Prime Minister KEVIN RUDD had announced the government would take around a third of
GST revenue .. in return for the commonwealth taking control of 60 per cent of hospital
funding.

But in the agreement signed with all states and territories bar Western Australia yesterday
.. no GST amount is specified.

Mr RUDD is expected to continue negotiations with WA Premier COLIN BARNETT until the
agreement comes into effect on July 1.
